Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Assistance
Controlling the pet overpopulation crisis starts with spaying and neutering. We offer financial aid and discount vouchers to help owners manage the cost of sterilization procedures. Additionally, our veterinary assistance program provides limited grants for urgent, life-saving medical care for pets in households facing extreme financial crises, ensuring no pet suffers due to a lack of funds for basic medical needs.

Free Pet Food Program
Our Free Pet Food Program is a vital safety net for local residents facing financial hardship. By providing consistent nutritional support, we aim to prevent families from having to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender their beloved companions due to the cost of food. We offer high-quality kibble and canned options for both dogs and cats, ensuring that every local pet stays healthy and well-fed at home.

Low-Cost Vaccination Clinics
Prevention is the best medicine. SAS hosts regular low-cost vaccination clinics to ensure all community pets have access to essential immunizations. Our clinics provide affordable protection against common and often deadly diseases like rabies and distemper. These events help maintain public health and keep our local pet population safe without imposing a significant financial burden on owners.
Our Community Programs
Helping animals means helping the people who love them, too. SAS runs several ongoing community programs that extend our impact beyond the walls of our shelter.
Healing Paws
A new compassionate service In 2024, we launched Healing Paws, a new program for members of our community in hospice care or facing serious illness. It was inspired by the many elderly animal lovers who are forced to surrender a beloved pet when they go into nursing care or into assisted living facilities where animals are prohibited. The program, which is completely free of charge, allows patients who are terminally ill or in hospice care to come to the shelter alone or with a caregiver. They are able to spend time in a private room with a loving animal (dog or cat) to bring them love and comfort at a time when they need it the most.

We are the top resource for animal-related issues in our area, and when issues arise, we are who the community turns to. In fall of 2017, after the devastating hurricane and floods in Houston, TX, many local residents called us to inquire how to help the animals of that region. We quickly organized a pet food and supplies drive and were able to gather 2,000 pounds of urgently needed items and get them to recipients in Texas within one week. Our supporters sewed recovery pouches for wildlife injured in the devastating wildfires in Australia in 2020. In short, we are the go-to resource for animals in our region.
